Building Body Acceptance Through Photography

In its literal sense, a boudoir is defined as a woman's private bedroom or dressing room, so it only makes sense that a boudoir photoshoot would be considered a women's sexy photoshoot.

Many of the boudoir photos you see probably are just that--women in lingerie in a bedroom setting. While these photos are absolutely sexy and beautiful, the actual experience itself is so much deeper and more powerful. The act of allowing yourself to bare it all, to let your walls down and be seen and captured by someone else, is the most liberating feeling you can experience. It is an initiation of returning home to your full vibrant, radiant and sensual self.

As a boudoir photographer, I have the privilege of witnessing my clients in this beautiful metamorphosis as they fully embrace themselves during their sessions. I get to see how their smile lights up an entire room, the feelings of pure joy and aliveness that come with being present in the moment and with their body. I see the confidence that emerges slowly and then all at once when they embrace their sexuality.  It's as though an entirely different person is standing in front of me, and they're wearing their confidence like their new favorite jacket as they leave the studio.

Allowing individuals to have a space to show up fully as they are and be genuinely witnessed in that expression does incredible things for how they feel about their body and connect with their sexuality. In many boudoir studios, you'll find that the environment is safe to explore and honor who you truly are and commemorate the experience with artwork.

Imagine being the most embodied version of yourself and feeling alive, confident, empowered, and sensual. When you've captured your essence, you can return and be reminded of how you felt and who you were in that moment. Your artwork is a testament to the growth and transformation you experienced inwardly, and it is such a beautiful gift to have the opportunity to revisit this version of you.

Celebrating ourselves helps improve how we feel about ourselves, and boudoir or taking sexy photos where we accept and embrace our bodies is the biggest celebration of all!

If you want to improve how you feel about yourself, improve your relationship with your body, feel more confident, and reclaim your sexuality, step in front of the camera. While I highly recommend investing with a professional because it can truly be life-changing, permitting yourself to show up in photos just as you are is powerful on its own! The more you see yourself fully, the more you can come to love and accept yourself, which creates more confidence and helps improve how you see yourself.

If you aren't quite ready to book a boudoir experience with your favorite boudoir photographer. In that case, I encourage you to take photos at home to get comfortable celebrating your body's current beautiful natural state. The first time attempting to capture yourself in your most sensual state might seem daunting, especially if you're dressed in your raciest lingerie set or nude. These obstacles can make taking a sexy selfie seem difficult, so I've included my free sexy selfie tutorial app to guide you through an at-home sexy photo shoot.

It will walk you through several poses and give expert photography tips and tricks about best practices for setting up your space and camera for the shoot. While also providing you with body-flattering pose ideas, the best ways to light your photos, and more! By the end of the tutorial, you'll be a pro in no time and will leave your at-home photo shoot feeling confident and flirting with your reflection in every mirror in your proximity.

If you try your hand at taking some sexy selfies on your own and are left feeling disappointed, give yourself grace and come back another day to try again. When we are so used to seeing ourselves a certain way, getting used to this newly confident, body-positive version of ourselves can be challenging. With time, you begin to get cozy with this liberated self, and it becomes the norm.
